Family Violence Coordinating Council

Kate Webster – Local Coordinator — KEWebster@22ndcircuit.illinoiscouts.gov

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Illinois initiated the Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council in 1990 to improve the justice system’s institutional, professional and community response to family violence, including intimate partner abuse, child abuse, teen dating violence, and abuse against older adults and people with disabilities.

Operating at both the local and state level, judges and other professionals make up multi-disciplinary councils.  The 22nd Judicial Circuit’s Family Violence Coordinating Council began operations in April of 2007.

Currently, the FVCC has 2 standing committees. The Steering Committee is made up of Executive Directors, Committee Chairs, Clergy, Law Enforcement Officers, Judges, the States’ Attorney, elected officials and others in leadership roles who have the ability to make decisions within their respective organizations. The Education & Training Committee draws membership from domestic violence, sexual assault, partner abuse and elder abuse agencies, law enforcement, the State’s Attorney’s Office, schools, hospitals, DCFS, the Child Advocacy Center, CASA, probation, ministers, social service agencies, McHenry County Crisis Services and McHenry County College.

The 22nd Judicial Circuit has presented an annual symposium on topics including Elder Abuse, Child Abuse and Stalking and Sexual Assault.  We are pleased to report that our partnerships have included Child Advocacy Center, Turning Point, Senior Service Associates, Family Alliance, local law enforcement including the Sheriff’s Office, McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office, Court Services, the Mental Health Board, Northwestern Health System, Rosecrance, Gateway Foundation, Regional Office of Education and Illinois Attorney General.
