Self Represented Litigant Help Center

Prairie StateThe McHenry County Self-Represented Help Center is a collaboration between the 22nd Judicial Circuit and Prairie State Legal Aid. Access to justice is paramount to all individuals. In today’s economy, not everyone can afford an attorney; however, there is a growing need for individuals to have access to the court. The Center assists over 3,500 individuals a year. The staff of the Center cannot provide legal advice, but they will provide information which can assist you with your litigation. Staff can provide legal information about the legal process, access to online court forms, and online resources such as Illinois Legal Aid. It is important to understand as a self-represented litigant that you will be held to the same standard as a trained attorney. You must follow the appropriate laws, procedures, rules and orders.
